Charles Samuel “Chubby” Vandergriff

Charles Samuel “Chubby” Vandergriff, 87, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on March 28, 2023.

Charles was born March 16, 1936, in Chattanooga, TN. Chubby was a talented artist, U.S. Army veteran of 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He retired from Chattanooga Gas Company after 35 years. Chubby was a graduate of City High School in 1957. He was a longtime member of Hickory Valley Christian Church in Chattanooga. Chubby will be remembered for serving as past president and coaching at Hillcrest Youth Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Vandergriff and Etta Mae (Rothwell) Gouger; siblings, Bill Padgett, John Padgett, Jr., Brina “Sue” Adcox, Barney Padgett, baby sister “Dottie”, and Mildred Vandergriff Smith.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Judith “Judy” (Jones) Vandergriff; his daughter, Lauren (Ben) Faczan; his son, Charles Jeffrey “Cejay” Vandergriff; two granddaughters, Ashlea Riden (Brad Loveless) and Joshlyne Vandergriff; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday,

March 30, 2023, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the funeral home. A burial of ashes will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Charles’s honor may be designated to the local ministry of Duoloyi Ministry via Hickory Valley Christian Church (https://www.dsministries.net/ donate).
