Head coach: Matt Moody (2-8 here and overall)
Returning starters: 10 offensive; 9 defensive
Last year’s record: 2-8 overall, did not qualify for Class 3A playoffs
Key players: Novice Cox (6-1, 185) Sr. QB/S, McCain Baker (5-8, 150) Sr. WR, Bay Harbison (6-0, 150) Jr. WR/ DB, Landon Watkins (6-2, 200) Sr. RB/DE, Hunter Cook (5-11, 170) RB/DB, Isaiah Edmonds (5-9, 160) Sr. RB/ LB, Isaiah Trew (6-3, 270) Sr. LT, Clint Roberts (6-1, 220) Sr. DE, RayRay McCarty (6-2, 170) So. WR/OLB
Season outlook: Trew is just one of many Chargers who has vastly improved in the weight room during the offseason.
The roster is loaded with experience and looks to be majorly improved in Moody’s second year.
“Our mentality is much different. That’s a tribute to what these guys have put into the weight room and practice field,” Moody said. “In the spring and through fall scrimmages we are playing with a different level of physicality and confidence in what we are doing. Our entire team is excited and ready to play.”
Cox offers leadership and has the ability to play defensive back at the next level. The offense could post some big numbers this year with solid experience at the skill positions.
“Novice understands what we are trying to do,” Moody said. “He has really taken the next step at the quarterback position and will be a key leader on defense, too. These guys are all bought in, and we are ready to go.”
