Chattanooga board diversity

The leadership of Chattanooga’s eight publicly traded companies, plus two of its biggest employers, remains overwhelming male and white.

› CEOs: All 10 of the CEOs are white males.

› Board makeup: Among the 84 directors on the boards overseeing the 10 major companies with Chattanooga area headquarters, nearly 80% are men (67 of 84) and 94% are white (79 of 84).

› Most diverse: BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has the most board diversity with four African American directors and two female directors, followed by Unum which has a Black director and four female directors. Although there are both men and women on all of the local company boards, most company boards are comprised of only white directors.
