House fire in Chattanooga’s East Lake displaces several families

A house fire displaced several families in East Lake on Monday night, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

A call was received at about 6:20 p.m. reporting a house fire in the 3100 block of Dodds Avenue. The house had been converted into several apartments, and responding firefighters were informed that all of the occupants were out of the residence.

Firefighters discovered fire in one of the apartments, and Engine 9’s crew made an interior attack and got the flames knocked down, the release said.

One adult and one child were taken to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and for further evaluation. Five adults and four children were displaced, and the American Red Cross is assisting the families.

Engine 9, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Quint 14, Quint 1, Ladder 1, Squad 1, Squad 13, Battalion 1, Battalion 3 and CFD Investigations responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
